The Dutch Authority for the Financial Markets (AFM) actively participates in the World Investor Week.
Increased digitalization and cross-border services offer opportunities for consumers and retail investors. However, they also provide challenges and risks, as do developments in digital offerings and social media, which increasingly influences the decisions of retail investors.
The AFM focusses on investor information and protection, raising awareness on best practices when investing, and warning against dubious or fraudulent ones by companies or platforms. For example, we have developed an easy-to-use checklist for retail investors to use when deciding to invest, and use frequent social media campaigns to inform specific targets audiences on the risks of investing without proper due diligence.
